Ohio Census Notes
In 1790, Ohio was still in what was known as Northwest Territory.
1790 census enumerators did not enter this hostile territory to take the
census so there is not a 1790 Federal census for the area that was to
become Ohio Territory in 1799.
1800 & 1810 Federal censuses were taken in Ohio but the only
surviving fragments are for Washington County, OH. What exists of these
early Ohio census records are included in the
1790-1890 Ohio Census Collection at Ancestry.
Federal Ohio census records are available to the public for census
years 1800 (Washington County only), 1810 (Washington County only),
1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 & 1930.

1790-1940 US Census Records at Ancestry.
1890 Ohio Federal Census Records were destroyed by a fire in the
Commerce Department Building in January 1921. Small fragments of
Hamilton and Clinton Counties survived the fire along with the 1890
Union Veterans and Widows Schedules which are often used as a census
substitute.
